Google Chrome Introduces Auto-Mute Feature for Website Notifications
Google Chrome has rolled out an update to automatically silence most website notifications, extending its user safety measures beyond blocking camera and location access requests. The new auto-mute feature targets low-engagement notifications, affecting less than 1% of users who interact with such prompts.
The update, available for desktop and Android users, will alert individuals when muting specific sites while preserving manual controls. Users can re-enable notifications via Chrome's Safety Check page or directly on affected websites. Google's testing revealed the change had negligible impact on user behavior—most already ignored notifications.
